Rules of the Road

When you ride a bike on a street or road, you are a driver; therefore, you have the same road rights and responsibilities as the driver of an automobile.
Be sure to follow these rules as you ride:
  • All riders must wear a certified helmet at all times on the route. Riders not wearing a helmet will be asked to leave the ride for their own safety.
  • Obey all traffic signs and signals.
  • Never wear headphones.
  • Ride on the right side of the lane, a couple of feet from the edge.
  • Ride in the same direction as traffic.
  • Ride in single file to allow traffic to pass.
  • Pass on the left only and announce that you are passing.
  • Give hand signals when stopping or turning.
