Caring for Children Foundation of Texas, Inc.
Through its Care VanŽ Program, the Caring for Children Foundation of Texas provides direct access to:
- immunizations for medically uninsured children and senior citizens in Texas. The Care VanŽ Program has immunized 206,895 children with 324,702 immunizations through December 2005.
- health screenings including blood pressure checks, glucose screenings, body-fat analysis and strength testing.
These specially-equipped vans visit schools, churches, restaurants, recreational parks, shopping centers, public housing, community and special events.
- 100 percent of every direct donation pays for delivery of immunizations and healthy pregnancy and birth defect
prevention education. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas contributes all administrative expenses without charge.

CARE VANŽ PROGRAM FACT SHEET
Immunizing children is one of the most direct, simple and least expensive ways to build healthier futures for medically underserved families in Texas.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, one of every four children living in Texas is not current on his or her immunizations due to a lack of affordability and access to medical care. , Working with local health care providers, the Caring for Children Foundation of Texas, Inc. and its lead sponsor Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, inaugurated the Texas Care Van Program in June 1997.
PURPOSE:
- Promote awareness of the need to immunize children with age-appropriate vaccinations.
- Provide direct access to vaccinations for medically underserved children and senior citizens in Texas through specially equipped vans that visit schools, churches, restaurants, recreational parks, shopping centers, public housing, community events, etc.
PROJECT BENEFITS:
To increase immunization rates among targeted children, with a particular emphasis on birth to age two.
The Care Van Program has screened or immunized 206,895 children with 327,876 immunizations through December 2005. The program has also provided 207,574 additional health screenings including blood pressure checks, glucose screenings, body fat analysis and strength testing.
Immunizations are provided by licensed health care providers, community volunteers and emergency medical service personnel.
